I just got done talking with an old friend of ours on the phone, Mike King. He lives in Alaska, has for the last seventeen or eighteen years now. He moved there from Maine. Roger and I grew up in the same school district in Maine as he did too, and we all ended up in Alaska, funny.
Mike was so excited and gearing up for the 2009 Yukon Quest Dog Sled Race. It runs all the way from Whitehorse, Yukon to Fairbanks, Alaska, 1,000 miles! It is the toughest race ever. The more commonly known Alaska race is the Iditarod. From Anchorage, in south central Alaska, to Nome on the western Bering Sea coast, each team of 12 to 16 dogs and their musher cover over 1150 miles in 10 to 17 days. That is the longest race. The Quest is the tougherrace of the two.

You can check out Mike King's website at: http://www.alaskatrailkingadventures.com/index.html
He's got some great photos on there as well. The photo to the right here I copied off from his site. That's Mike in the photo, with part of his team. I believe he has 42 sled dogs that he takes care of. He knows them all by name and can tell you each of their personalities and who they can run with and who they can't. He sure loves his dogs.
Now Mike, he could tell us some camping stories! He has told Roger and I some real whoppers! Mike actually does overnight camping trips for hire. He let's you drive your own dog team, too, if you want to. I be some of those trips turn out to be quite the adventure stories!
